Welcome
The Irish Horse Board is a co-operative society with over 15,000 members and a board of 13 directors. Of the 13 directors, 10 represent five electoral regions and 3 are appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
The objectives of the Irish Horse Board are to:
- Maintain the Irish Horse Register, which incorporates the Irish Sport Horse Studbook and the Irish Draught Horse Studbook
- Promote and Market the Achievements of Irish Sport Horses nationally and internationally
- Operate Schemes to Improve the Quality of Irish Sport Horses
- Promote Equestrian Tourism & Equestrian Education
The breeding objective of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook is to produce a correct, sound, athletic sport horse with good basic paces making it very pleasant to ride and with a good temperament, which can be used as a pleasure or performance horse, capable of competing in showjumping, eventing and dressage at both national and international level.

The eventing circuit proved a happy hunting ground for Irish Sport Horses again this week when Ballincoola (ISH) and William Fox-Pitt (Gbr) finished third in the prestigious CCI4* at Badminton Horse Trials.
