The Irish Horse Board is a co-operative society with over 17,000 shareholders. The Society has maintained the Irish Horse Register, incorporating the Irish Sport Horse Studbook and the Irish Draught Horse Studbook, since 1993.
In late 2006, Horse Sport Ireland (www.horsesportireland.ie), to bring the sport, breeding and leisure sides of the Sport Horse Sector together. In 2008 a Special General Meeting of the Irish Horse Board Co-operative Society approved the Irish Horse Board's integration with Horse Sport Ireland. As a result, the Board of Directors of the Irish Horse Board plus three co-optees from the Northern Ireland Horse Board, the Connemara Pony Breeders Society and the Irish Pony Society, became the Breeding Sub-Board of Horse Sport Ireland.
In 2008 the maintenance of the Irish Horse Register became the legal responsibility of Horse Sport Ireland. All of the former Irish Horse Board staff now work for Horse Sport Ireland and are based in Horse Sport Ireland's offices in Naas. The Breeding Sub-Board of Horse Sport Ireland now has responsibility for breeding policy and allocates the budget for breeding programmes in line with the budget set by the Board of Directors of Horse Sport Ireland.
As part of the affiliation with Horse Sport Ireland, all current members of the Co-operative continue to receive a discount on their breeding registration fees and access to CapallOir. The Co-operative fulfils an important election role in electing 13 members of the Breeding Sub-Board of Horse Sport Ireland. The Co-operative also nominates 5 directors to the Main Board of Horse Sport Ireland. 2013 Elections to the Board of the Irish Horse Board Co-operative Society Ltd
Dear IHB Member,
In accordance with the Rules of the Society, a vacancy to the Board of Directors arises in the current year, in each of the following electoral regions:
Region 1: Counties Wicklow, Louth, Kildare, Laois, Offaly, Meath, Westmeath and Dublin.
Region 3: Counties Waterford, Kerry, Limerick, and Cork.
Region 5: Counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan, Longford and Roscommon.
Please note that a number of shareholders who are resident outside of Ireland have been assigned to each of the above regions.
Nominations are now invited for election to the Board from members in Regions 1, 3 and 5.
If you wish to make a nomination, please contact the office at 045 854523 to request a nomination form or alternatively, the nomination form is available for download from the IHB website at www.ihb.ie. Please note that to be entitled to vote in the 2013 elections, the current year annual membership fee must be paid by 31st May 2013.
Please complete the form, ensuring that it is signed by a seconder who is a member of the society and by the person proposed, who must also be a member, indicating his/her willingness to act. Nominations are subject to the Rules of the Society.
Nomination forms must be received by the IHB office by 12 noon on Friday 21st June 2013 addressed for the attention of the Director General. If more than one candidate is nominated to each region a postal ballot will be held.
