Irish Horse Board Showjumping classes at Boswell

The fifth leg in the IHB series of showjumping classes for 5 year olds and 6/7 year olds took place at Boswell Equestrian from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th July. One qualifier in each age category was held on Friday morning, with the second set of qualifiers taking place on Saturday afternoon. Finals were held after the Grand Prix on Sunday.

Paul O’Shea had a fantastic weekend, winning the finals in both age categories. In the five year old final, riding Quality Fair (ISH), he set a time of 33.12 seconds early on in the class. Despite several strong contenders jumping very fast clear rounds, the duo managed to retain their lead and collect the winning prize of €1,320.

The 6/7 year old final was a hotly contested class. Four 6 year olds and five 7 year olds went through to the jump off. Clem McMahon and Badgerhill Cruise (ISH) were the first to jump clear in a time of 32.50 seconds. It looked like the winner was decided when Lucy Buchanan and Cavalier Andy (ISH) managed a clear in a speedy 31.74. Last into the arena, were Paul O’Shea and the Irish Sport Horse stallion Shannondale Macalla. In a superb display of jump-off riding, Paul managed to cut a corner to the last to finish in an incredible 29.63.
