The second leg of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping Series 2009 took place at Cavan Show this weekend. Horse Sport Ireland had €10,000 in prize money on offer for the 5 Year Old and 6/7 Year Old classes. The qualifier classes took place on Saturday, with the top twenty 5 year olds and the top twenty 6/7 year olds qualifying for Sunday’s finals.

The 5 Year Old Final took place first under the new rules of the Series, where 5 year olds are not jumped off against the clock. Jumping double clear rounds, and dividing the €4,500 prize fund, were six combinations – Efflorescence (ISH) & Kelda Morgan, Porsch’s Diamond (ISH) & Conor Drain, I’m One Cool Cookie (ISH) & John McGuinness, Royal Ransom (ISH) & Donnacha Dermody, Hermes Clover (ISH) & Angela Percy and Ardragh Stein (ISH) & Gerard Clarke.

The 6/7 Year Old Final followed, with 17 starters competing for the €4,500 on offer. Eight combinations made it through to the jump off but only Greg Broderick and Ballypatrick Flight (ISH) left all the fences in place, winning the class in a time of 45.98 seconds. Conor Drain and Loughview Lou-Lou (ISH), winners of the first leg of the Series, slotted into second place, while Belle Rock (ISH) and Clem McMahon took third.

Porsch’s Diamond (ISH) and Conor Drain now lead the 5 Year Old League on 10 points, with several other combinations their closest rivals on 5 points. The 6/7 Year Old League also sees Conor in pole position with Loughview Lou-Lou (ISH), on 18 points. Greg Broderick and Ballypatrick Flight (ISH) are lying in second place on 10 points.

Full results, including breeding information, are detailed below. Action moves next to Mullingar International Show, over the June bank holiday weekend, for the third leg of the Series.
