The Irish Sport Horse, Balladeer Alfred claimed victory in the first ever World Cup Qualifier to be held in Ireland. This historical event was co sponsored by the Irish Horse Board. The qualifier was won by the Irish Sport Horse Balladeer Alfred, a nine year old gelding by Edmund Burke. On board was Neilius O'Donoghue who is the first Irishman to win a World Cup Qualifier. O'Donoghue showed excellent horsemanship skills while steering the Irish Sport Horse to victory. Balladeer Alfred displayed the ability and courage for which Irish Sport Horses are renowned. Just out of the top prizes, in 4th place, was the Cavalier mare Quick Thinking, ridden by Lt Geoff Curran.
The CIC** saw four Irish Sport Horses in the top ten, with Kaiser Soze ridden by Simon Roche (Ire) finishing third, Sara Ennis (Ire) riding Nearly A King in seventh, Sally Corscadden riding Millridge Kalmar in ninth and Emma Harrington riding Hidden Assit in tenth place.
The CIC* also saw Irish Sport Horses taking home rosettes with Brown Island ridden by Katja Neinecke for Germany taking third place.
The Irish Horse Board sponsored prizes for the highest placed Irish Sport Horses in each class. Balladeer Alfred, Quick Thinking and Who's Blitz took the prizes in the CIC***W. Kaiser Soze, Nearly A King and Millridge Kalmar in the CIC** and Brown Island, Telroyale and Cavalier Royale in the CIC*.
The Fell family provided excellent facilities for all involved and the Irish Horse Board are delighted to have been associated with such a successful event.
