Horse Sport Ireland National Winter Tour 2008
With the aim of supporting increased showjumping participation and the promotion of horses and ponies bred in Ireland, Horse Sport Ireland has announced details of the Horse Sport Ireland National Winter Tour. H.S.I. will offer significant prize money for the Winter Tour, as well as breeders’ prizes and training bursaries at the Grand Final.
Three qualifying shows will be held in November with the Grand Final taking place at Cavan Equestrian Centre on Saturday 13th December 2008. 15 horses/ponies from each qualifying class will be eligible to compete at the Grand Final.

Horse Sport Ireland Chairman, Joe Walsh, said that the Tour was an exciting new competition at a time of year when there was traditionally very little activity. “We are looking forward to the new competition and I want to acknowledge the work of Showjumping Ireland representatives to the H.S.I. Board in putting the competition together.”

Note:
- Additional prizes at the Grand Final will include training bursaries to the winning rider in each class. The winning rider in each class at the final will receive training (group training session) with a tutor nominated from the H.S.I. tutor list. This training will be organised in conjunction with the H.S.I. Coaching Department.
- Rugs and trophies will be awarded to the winning rider of each class at the Grand Final;
- Entries are payable on the day for the qualifiers and final. The entry fee for each class at the qualifiers is €15 and €20 for each class at the final. Entry fees are payable to the venue;
- 15 horses/ponies will qualify for the final from each qualifying class;
- All classes will start on time and must be run in strict programme order. The organisers reserve the right to alter the schedule and/or sequence of the events;
- Horse classes are restricted to horses born in Ireland (i.e. breeder documented on their passport);
- Pony classes are open to all breeds of ponies. Breeding recognition prizes will be made to the highest placed Irish bred pony in each class at the final. €100 recognition prize per class will apply;
- Only qualified combinations of horse/pony and rider can compete at the final;
