Horse Sport Ireland National Winter Tour 2008

With the aim of supporting increased showjumping participation and the promotion of horses and ponies bred in Ireland, Horse Sport Ireland, in conjunction with Showjumping Ireland, has announced the full details of the H.S.I. National Winter Tour 2008. Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh said that the Tour was an exciting new competition at a time of year when there was traditionally very little activity. “We are looking forward to the new competition and I want to acknowledge the work of Showjumping Ireland representatives to the H.S.I. Board in putting the competition together.”

Horse classes:
  • Horse classes are restricted to horses bred in Ireland;
  • Passports must be presented upon entry (to be checked by H.S.I. at the show);
  • Horse must have the breed code ISH, RID, ID, TB, WNTR, CP, etc. and/or have their breeder documented on their passport stating they were born in Ireland;
  • Foreign bred horses can jump for SJI points at the qualifiers only but are not eligible for prizes, places or entry into the Finals. 
Pony classes:
  • From each of the three qualifiers, approximately 15 pony/rider combinations will go through to the Grand Final at Cavan;
  • All double clears at each of the qualifiers will be eligible for the Grand Final;
  • If the number of double clears fails to meet the quota of ponies eligible to attend the Finals, the highest placed fifteen will be taken, according to time;
  • At the Grand Final all pony classes will be jump off classes;
  • Pony classes are open to CD ponies as of 21st August 2008.
Prize money:
  • Horse qualifiers (total €700) – 1st €210, 2nd €140, 3rd €95, 4th €80, 5th €65, 6th €50, 7th €15, 8th €15, 9th €15, 10th €15;
  • Pony qualifiers (total €400) – 1st €110, 2nd €70, 3rd €55, 4th €45, 5th €35, 6th €25, 7th €15, 8th €15, 9th €15, 10th €15;
  • Horse finals (total €1,500) – 1st €470, 2nd €320, 3rd €210, 4th €170, 5th €140, 6th €110, 7th €20, 8th €20, 9th €20, 10th €20;
  • Pony finals (total €1,000) – 1st €300, 2nd €200, 3rd €140, 4th €115, 5th €95, 6th €70, 7th €20, 8th €20, 9th €20, 10th €20;
  • Approximate percentages – 33%, 22%, 15%, 12%, 10%, 8%, refund of entry (7th to 10th);
  • Prize money will be posted out to the owners (as per the SJI ticket) after each show.
Note:
  • Entries are payable on the day for the qualifiers and Grand Final. The entry fee for the qualifier classes is €15 and for the final classes €20. Entry fees are payable to the venues;
  • Horse classes are restricted to Irish bred horses but foreign bred horses may jump for points (see rule above). Pony classes are open to all breeds, however breeding recognition prizes will be awarded to highest placed Irish bred pony in each pony class at the Grand Final (€100 per class);
  • 15 horses/ponies will qualify for the final from each qualifying class (please note special rule applying to ponies above);
  • Only qualified combinations of horse/pony and rider can compete at the Grand Final;
  • Additional prizes at the Grand Final will include training bursaries to the winning rider in each class. The winning rider will receive training (group session) with a coach nominated from the H.S.I. coaching list. This training will be organised in conjunction with the H.S.I. Coaching Department;
  • At each of the qualifiers rosettes will be awarded down to 10th place in each class and a trophy will be awarded to the winning rider in each class;
  • At the Grand Final rosettes will be awarded down to 10th place in each class and a rug and trophy will be awarded to the winning rider in each class;
  • Prizes in kind will be awarded in the Amateur classes;
  • All classes will start on time and run in strict programme order and proper rider attire is requested (as per SJI rules).
