Horse Sport Ireland were delighted to sponsor eight championships at this year’s Dublin Horse Show, which ran from 6th to 10th August. With in excess of €130,000 on offer from Horse Sport Ireland, as well as breeders’ prizes, the standard of competition was exceptionally high.

The Horse Sport Ireland finals of the "Champion of Champions" for one to three year old Irish bred ponies took place at the Irish Pony Society championship show held at Cavan Equestrian on Saturday 2nd August. Financed to the tune of €5000 with €1000 going to the winner, plus rugs to all finalists, this competition has hugely enhanced the enthusiasm of the pony breeders both North and South.

Winning this prize and coming second in the Grand Prix was Tholm Keane with Ronan Tynan’s Warrenstown Well Aware (ISH). This Cruising mare was bred by Brian Connolly from Tuam in Galway.

The final will be held at the Irish Pony Society Championship Show at Cavan Equestrian Centre, which runs from 2nd to 3rd August 2008. The ‘Horse Sport Ireland Pony Champion of Champions’ final will take place on the evening of 2nd August. Results from the first four qualifiers are detailed below.

The Irish Sport Horse Studbook were delighted to support the Premier Series Grand Prix at Mullingar International last weekend. A prize fund of €1,000 was on offer, with €500 for the owner and €500 for the breeder of the highest placed Irish Sport Horse.

Winning this prize as well as finishing in second place in the Premier Series Grand Prix at Barnadown was Trevor Breen and Always Cullohill (ISH).

The Irish Sport Horse Studbook were delighted to support the Premier League Grand Prix at Louth County Show last weekend. The Irish Sport Horse Studbook offered a prize fund of €1,000 (€500 to the owner and €500 to the breeder) of the highest placed Irish Sport Horse.

The Irish Sport Horse Studbook were delighted to support the Guidam Spring Tour, by providing prize money of €1,000 to the owner and €500 to the breeder of the highest placed eligible Irish Sport Horse throughout the league. Winning this prize money was Always Cullohill (ISH), ridden by Trevor Breen, who was both bred and is owned by James Costigan.

The 2007 FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses got underway in Lanaken, Belgium on Thursday the 27th of September. A total of fifteen Irish Sport Horses travelled to Lanaken to compete in the prestigious young horse competition.

The final of the FEHL 2007 took place at Tattersalls on Saturday 22nd September 2007. The Irish Horse Board were proud to sponsor the FEHL league prizes in both the 4 Year Old League and 5 Year Old League. The IHB also awarded a trophy to the highest placed mare registered in the IHR, in both age categories.

The Irish Horse Board were proud to support the Pony Advancement Grand Prix, which took place at the Banteer Show on Sunday 2nd September 2007. The IHB provided €5,000 in prize money towards the four Grand Prix classes, 128AB, 128 Under 10, 138AB and 148AB.

The Irish Horse Board were delighted to support the Limerick Matron, which took place at Limerick Show on Saturday 25th August. The Limerick Matron aims to promote and showcase the traditional breeding of the Irish half-bred mares, with the hope that the resulting progeny will make top class Irish Sport Horses.

The Irish Horse Board were proud to support the Connacht Caseys/Fautras League 2007. This is a 1m30 league for the Connacht region, aimed at the young rider as well as the up and coming Grand Prix horse.

The Irish Horse Board were proud to sponsor the Amateur Final at the Whites Cross Charity Show, which was held at Ballindenisk on Sunday 12th August. The IHB provide €5,000 in sponsorship for this class. Qualifiers were held in July and August, culminating in the final at Ballindenisk, Co. Cork.

The Irish Horse Board were delighted to sponsor three classes at the West Cork Horse Breeders Show, which was held in West Cork Equine Centre on Saturday 21st July 2007.

The Irish team competing at the Children’s European Championships have won the silver medal in the Nations Cup. The team, comprised of Michael Duffy, Edward Doyle Jnr, Jack Dodd and Jordan Coyle, finished on a score of just four faults after two rounds. The team from Great Britain held the lead on one fault and after a tough jump off, the Irish team beat both Italy and Portugal to clinch the silver medal position.

The Ballinalee Connemara Pony Show took place last weekend in Ballinalee, Co. Longford. This year’s show was the 21st Ballinalee Connemara Pony Show, which is held annually on the second Sunday in June.

Winning the Irish Horse Board CCI** was William Fox-Pitt and Trinity Hall. The highest placed Irish bred horse was Elizabeth Power’s Thoroughbred mount Kilpatrick River.

Winning the Irish Horse Board CCI*** was New Zealand’s Andrew Nicholson and Silbury Hill. The highest placed Irish Sport Horse was Another Cavalier, who finished an impressive fourth with Matthew Wright (Gbr).
