Young Breeders Championship
Irish Horse Board ~ Young Breeders Championship
Young Breeders from all corners of the country gathered yesterday at Gurteen College, Roscrea, Co Tipperary in a bid to earn a place on the squad that will represent Ireland at the WBFSH International Young Breeders Competition which will be held next year.
The competition consisted of two different age categories 16-19 year olds and 20-25 year olds. These Young Breeders were tested on theory, presenting a mare in hand, judging of gaits of loose horses, judging loose jumping and ranking mares on conformation. The judges also explained why they awarded the marks they did which gave the competitors a greater understanding of what to look for when breeding horses.
Winning the 20-25 year old category was Janine Mulgrew from Dungannon in Co Tyrone.
Winning the 16-19 Year old category was Amanda Fahy from Craughwell in Co Galway
The Irish Horse Board hope that this Championship will encourage Young Breeders involvement in the Breeding Industry and would like to thank Teagasc for their help in establishing and running this competition, to all the staff and helpers at Gurteen College and to the owners who kindly allowed the use of their horses for the competition.
