Changes to the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Rules

Following the publishing of the Irish Horse Board commissioned report early this year ‘Future of the Irish Sport Horse Industry, Analysis and Recommendations’, the Irish Horse Board is delighted to announce changes to the rules of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook in relation to high performance foreign bred stallions.

Under the new rules stallions which are standing in Ireland and meet all of the following criteria will be eligible for Approval in the Irish Sport Horse Studbook:

  • Have been approved in their studbook of origin;
  • Have competed in show jumping at Grand Prix or Nations Cup level at CSIO4* (or the equivalent in eventing or dressage);
  • Have at least one progeny that has competed in show jumping at Grand Prix or Nations Cup level at CSIO4* (or the equivalent in eventing or dressage).

The Irish Horse Board hopes that these changes will encourage the classification of high performance stallions in the Irish Sport Horse Studbook.
