Horse Sport Ireland Young Breeders Competition 2008

Horse Sport Ireland is delighted to announce details of the Horse Sport Ireland Young Breeders Competition 2008, which is organised in conjunction with Teagasc. This year's competition will be held at Gurteen College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary on Tuesday the 29th of July.

The Horse Sport Ireland Young Breeders Competition is open to everyone aged between 15 and 24 years of age that have an interest in horses. Competitors will be divided into two age groups in accordance with the age categories eligible to qualify for the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses International Young Breeders Competition 2008:

• Persons born between the 1st January 1990 and the 31st December 1993 (i.e. aged between 16 and 19 in 2009)
• Persons born between the 1st January 1984 and the 31st December 1989 (i.e. aged between 20 and 25 in 2009)

The competition will consist of five different sections:

1. Theory
2. Presenting a horse in-hand
3. Judging of gaits of loose horses
4. Judging loose jumping
5. Ranking three mares on conformation

Following the competition, an extensive training programme will be put in place by Horse Sport Ireland in conjunction with Teagasc. This training programme, together with the Young Breeders Competition, will enchance young people's knowledge of horse breeding and production, thereby equipping them to produce the type of animal required to meet the requirements of the marketplace.
