Irish Horse Board Announcing details of the Young Breeders Competition
The Irish Horse Board is delighted to announce the details of the new Irish Horse Board Young Breeders Competition.
Competitors will be divided into two age groups in accordance with the age categories eligible to qualify for the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses Young Breeders Competition 2007:
- Persons born between the 1st January 1988 and the 31st December 1991 (i.e. aged between 16 and 19 in 2007)
- Persons born between the 1st January 1982 and the 31st December 1987 (i.e. aged between 20 and 25 in 2007)
The competition will consist of five different sections:
(i) Theory
(ii) Presenting a horse in hand*
(iii) Judging the gaits of loose horses
(iv) Judging loose jumping
(v) Ranking three mares on conformation.
*Please note that competitors must bring their own horse to present in-hand at the qualifiers.
Four regional qualifying competitions will be held throughout the country at the following locations:

*Please note that the maximum number of competitors that will be accommodated per qualifier is 60 (30 from each age category). Only the first 60 applicants (30 from each age group) per venue will be guaranteed their place in the qualifier.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday the 28th June 2006.
The top five competitors from each age group will be selected from each of the four qualifiers to compete at the final at Gurteen College on Thursday the 27th July.
The highest placed six competitors at the final will be chosen from each age category and will receive coaching during the following months from which the final selection will be made for the teams travelling to the WBFSH Young Breeders Competition in 2007 to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook.
The Irish Horse Board hopes that the Young Breeders Competition will encourage young people to get involved in the judging and showing of horses and would like to thank Teagasc for their help in establishing this competition.
