Irish Horse Board - Young Breeders Training Day

The new Irish Horse Board Young Breeders Competition was established this summer with the aim of encouraging young people to get involved in the judging and showing of horses. A large number of young breeders gathered in July 2006 hoping to be selected to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at the WBFSH Young Breeders Competition in 2007.

Following the final of this competition the highest placed six competitors were chosen from each age category (senior and junior) to receive coaching before the selection is made for the Irish Sport Horse Young Breeder Team 2007.

The first of these training days took place on Saturday the 4th November at Gurteen College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. Mr. Philip Scott was on hand to train the group of young enthusiastic breeders in the art of showing a horse in-hand and judging the conformation of a mare.

The Irish Horse Board would like to thank Mr. Philip Scott and Mr. Norman Storey, Teagasc, for making the training day such a success. The Irish Horse Board is also indebted to the staff and helpers at Gurteen College for their assistance.
