New selection criteria and prize money for ISHs competing at Lanaken 2006 

The Irish Horse Board is pleased to announce new selection criteria for Irish Sport Horses travelling to the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses, Lanaken, Belgium, to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook.

Each year 15 horses (five for each age category – 5 year old, 6 year old and 7 year old) are chosen to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at this prestigious event and are awarded a travel grant by the Irish Horse Board.

In order to be eligible to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook horses must be by a sire that is classified as Approved in the Irish Horse Register and have their dam documented on their passport.

This year horses will be selected in each age category on the following basis:

  • The horse with the highest number of points in the IHB showjumping league after the first five IHB showjumping classes;
  • The two highest placed eligible horses from the National Championships at the RDS;
  • The highest placed eligible horse from the relavent young horses classes at Millstreet;
  • One horse to be selected on the basis of performance in IHB showjumping classes, the RDS and Millstreet.

As a new incentive to promote top young Irish Sport Horses competing on this world stage very significant prize money will be on offer from the Irish Horse Board for horses that finish in the top ten in the finals of the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses, Lanaken, Belgium:

  • 1st place - €10,000
  • 2nd place - €9,000
  • 3rd place - €8,000
  • 4th place - €7,000
  • 5th place - €6,000
  • 6th place - €5,000
  • 7th place - €4,000
  • 8th place - €3,000
  • 9th place - €2,000
  • 10th place - €1,000

The same prize money will also be on offer to Irish horse and rider combinations that receive a travel grant from the Irish Horse Board to travel to Le Lion d’Angers for the Young Horse Eventing Championship to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook.

The Irish Horse Board hopes that the new selection criteria and prize money will increase the prestige and excitement for our top young Irish Sport Horses competing at the World Breeding Championships for Young Horse 2006.
