RID Stallion – Rockrimmon Silver Diamond

The Irish Draught stallion, Rockrimmon Silver Diamond was presented to the Irish Horse Board by his late owner, Mr. Barry O’Brien, in 2005. The stallion was born in 1994 and is fully approved in the Irish Horse Register. He was bred by Patrick Gleeson, Coolgreen House, Dromkeen, Co. Limerick.

For the 2006 and 2007 breeding seasons, the stallion stood with Mr. Timothy Carey of Tullaghansleek Stud, Co. Westmeath. The two-year period, which was the agreed period that the stallion would stand with his initial custodian, has now ended.

Applications are invited for stallion masters to apply for the custody of Rockrimmon Silver Diamond for the 2008 and 2009 breeding seasons. It is proposed to locate the stallion with a custodian on a lease basis. Stallion masters who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for custody of the stallion:

  • Applicant must be a stallion master who currently has or has had an approved stallion in the Irish Horse Register since 2006
  • Applicant must have the capability to make the stallion available through AI
  • Applicant must demonstrate reasonable demand for an ID stallion in his/her area
  • Applicant agrees to allow inspection of the stallion by the IHB and all reasonable requests to view the stallion by mare owners, etc.
  • Applicant agrees to maintain the stallion including covering the costs of any veterinary fees, etc. while the stallion is in his/her custody

Applications will be assessed using the above criteria. Applicants will be informed of the decision in relation to their eligibility prior to the final selection. Final selection will be made by means of a draw among eligible applicants. It is proposed that this draw will take place at a Board meeting of the Irish Horse Board in December 2007.

Application forms have now been sent to eligible stallion owners and include a document explaining the conditions relating to the placement of the stallion.

If you have not received an application form and believe you are eligible to apply, please contact Laura Whelan in the Irish Horse Board. It should be noted that the closing date for receipt of completed applications is strictly Friday 30th November 2007. Applications received after this date cannot be considered and will be returned.
