Rockrimmon Silver Diamond
Rockrimmon Silver Diamond
Rockrimmon Silver Diamond is a 1994 grey RID Irish Horse Board Approved stallion. He is by Sillot Hill (RID) out of Saggart’s Millie (RID), by Diamond Prince (RID). He was bred by Patrick Gleeson of Coolgreen House, Dromkeen, Co. Limerick.
In September 2005, the Irish Horse Board was approached by Mr. Barry O’Brien of Orchard Hill Equestrian Centre, Massachusetts with a very generous offer of the donation of an Irish Draught stallion, known as Rockrimmon Silver Diamond, to the Board. The intention behind the donation was that the stallion would be moved around Ireland, and located with various custodians, in order to cover as many mares as possible.
Upon his arrival in Ireland in December, Rockrimmon Silver Diamond was stabled at the National Stud. The IHB then requested that eligible stallion owners should apply for the position of custodian of the stallion. The custodian was to take the stallion for a two-year period and have the means to make the stallion available through AI. Following a draw of applicants, Mr. Timothy Carey of Tullaghansleek Stud, Co. Westmeath was selected as custodian of Rockrimmon Silver Diamond. After spending a short period at Broadmeadow Equestrian Centre, the stallion was moved to Tullaghansleek Stud in February 2006.
Unfortunately, in late March, the IHB received the sad news that Barry O’Brien had passed away. In respect of his memory, the official handing over of the stallion was delayed until Tuesday 11th April, when Rockrimmon Silver Diamond was officially handed over to Tim Carey. The stallion has settled in well at Tullaghansleek Stud and has already covered several mares since February.
Barry’s generous donation is sure to make an important contribution to the Irish Sport Horse industry. The Irish Horse Board would like to extend its sympathies to Barry’s family as well as our gratitude for his donation. We would also like to wish the Carey family every success with the stallion for the coming breeding season.
