The unveiling of the statue of Eagle Lion and Bruce Davidson Snr.

The 2007 Rolex CCI**** Three Day Event certainly pulled the crowds into Kentucky Horse Park on Sunday 29th April for the unveiling of the life-sized bronze statue of eventing legends, Eagle Lion (ISH) and his rider, Bruce Davidson Senior. The beautiful statue shows Davidson and Eagle Lion jumping down into a water complex with Davidson stretched back with one arm in the air and the horse looking intent with pricked ears.

Sculptor John Claggett truly caught the great bond between this Irish Sport Horse and his jockey. Eagle Lion was bred by Mrs. Patricia Nicholson in 1985 and is by the thoroughbred stallion, Gipfel out of Stream Lion (ISH) by Ideal Water (ISH). He competed at numerous events and represented his country on several occasions, including the Olympic Games, World Championships, Rolex CCI****, Badminton CCI****, Burghley CCI****, Fairhill CCI***. One of his greatest achievements was winning Badminton Horse Trials CCI**** in 1995.

Owing to his success and long eventing career, Eagle Lion is certainly a favourite amongst the greatest event horses and a wonderful ambassador for the Irish Sport Horse breed.
