WBFSH presentation to the breeder of Ringwood Cockatoo, Ms Hilary Greer

The past year saw the Irish Sport Horse continue to dominate the world in the sport of eventing, taking all the top honours in the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) rankings. The WBFSH is the international Federation of Studbooks for Sport Horses. It is the major connection between the breeding organisations of sport horses and international equestrian sport (FEI). In conjunction with the FEI, the WBFSH run the World Breeding Championships for Sport Horses in the three Olympic disciplines, Showjumping, Eventing and Dressage. In addition, the WBFSH produce the world rankings for studbooks and individual horse rankings for Showjumping, Dressage and Eventing each year.

Since the establishment of the WBFSH rankings, the Irish Sport Horse Studbook has been the world’s leading studbook in the Eventing rankings. Apart from topping the rankings for the twelfth successive year, the major highlight for the Irish Sport Horse Studbook in 2006 was having the 1st and 2nd placed horses in the WBFSH Eventing rankings.

The highest ranked horse is none other than the magnificent grey gelding Ringwood Cockatoo, born in 1991, by the thoroughbred Peacock, out of the Irish Sport Horse mare Bailey’s Foley. Ringwood Cockatoo was bred in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan by Ms Hilary Greer, produced by Ann O’Grady in Limerick and ridden by Bettina Hoy of Germany.

On Sunday 10th December, Ms Hilary Greer received an award for the breeder of the highest ranked eventing horse in the WBFSH rankings at the Geneva International Horse Show, Geneva, Switzerland. The award was presented to Ms Greer by Mr Jan Pederson, President of the WBFSH, and sponsors Merial.
